The level design looked completely different and new from this new angle, and navigating the levels with the jetpack was really satisfying. It honestly was more fun to play this mode than the actual game. The mode rotates the levels onto their side or onto their ceilings, and then since they’re not designed to be navigated this way, the mode gives you a jetpack to move around. Strafe has an unlockable mode called Jetpack Adventure and it is one of the most satisfying experiences I’ve had with a game.I wanted to compare Strafe and Doom ‘16, as they both try to recreate a 1990’s FPS while incorporating modern game design, but each game approaches this goal from two radically different directions. There’s some really fun stuff to talk about. An article about the artistry and artistic devices used in Myst.Just a straightforward blogpost about how I felt about it. I wanted to do just a straight up “review” about Obduction.Lots of non-superficial similarities between the games. I wanted to compare Myst and Outer Wilds and how Outer wilds genuinely felt like a spiritual successor to Myst in many ways. Anyway, I really wanted to write about that experience, but just never did. In the actual game it is excruciatingly frustrating and time consuming to even get one sentence of backstory. The backstory is really fascinating… if you read the wiki. It is just so antagonistic towards the player with some genuine bad game design (ex.: you’d think the designers would make it hard to get into a difficult zone and easy to get into an easy zone, but I actually got stuck in a really difficult area and I kept dying but I couldn’t get back into the easier area because by dying, my karma level was too low and the gate to the easier area wouldn’t open, but I couldn’t raise my karma to get through the gate because the area was too difficult level up in). I honestly wound up hating it after 40+ hours of of trying really hard to enjoy it. A “puzzle” game where the puzzles are just learning to understand the ecosystems and how the world functions? Yes please! Playing as an alien in an alien world? Hell Yeah! But I bounced off of this game so hard. I was looking forward to this game so much, and it was right up my alley.
